Ketogenic? Atkins? Low Carb? Paleo?

With so many diets out there, every single one claiming to be better than the rest.

How can you spot the key’s to a truly good diet?

What is A Good Diet?

A good diet, in my opinion, is one that you can follow for a lifetime. Why do I say that?

A diet that lasts for a lifetime, gives results for a lifetime”
— Harry Morris, 2019

Short term (fad) diets give you a very quick hit of results. But those results soon disappear when you can no longer sustain your pattern of eating and switch back to your ‘old ways’.

Just think back to any quick fix diet you’ve tried in the past… are you still on it now? No. Exactly. Which leads us on to our first point:

Sustainability

You need to be consuming foods that you actually enjoy. Taste. Texture. Smell. Appearance.

If you decide to eat foods that you don’t like, then guess what… your diet won’t last long!

This doesn’t mean that you can’t eat healthy foods. Healthy food is TASTY. If you don’t think healthy food is tasty, then you aren’t trying enough foods.

Balance

I also believe in constructing a balanced diet. Cutting out whole food groups can result in deficiency, especially when there is no substitute. So aim to consume a moderate caloric intake of a wide variety of foods.

Throw moderation to the winds, and the greatest pleasures bring the greatest pains

You can also consume too much of something. As Democritus stated above, it is possible to take something good and it turn into something bad without moderation.

Perfection

Just kidding... A diet doesn’t need to be perfect.

In the pursuit of creating the perfect diet, it is possible to damage your relationship with food. Food is one of the most enjoyable parts of life.

We socialise with food. We nourish ourselves. We survive because of food.

The last thing we want is to develop a negative thought pattern when it comes to such an essential part of our lives.

The Message

Build a diet that you can maintain for a lifetime, this is usually small tweaks of your current way of eating.

Be balanced when it comes to food. Moderation is key.

Don’t try to be perfect. Enjoy Life.
